〔補註〕《首楞嚴》云「因戒生定，因定發慧。」正此意也。然彼但說戒能生定，慧自從定而生。今則戒能生定、戒能生慧，與彼稍別，蓋贊戒之至也。

[Supplementary note:] The Śūraṅgama Sūtra says: "Relying on the precepts, concentration is born; relying on concentration, wisdom arises." This is precisely the meaning. However, that text merely says that the precepts can generate concentration and wisdom arises of itself from concentration. Here, the precepts can generate concentration and the precepts can generate wisdom; it differs slightly from that text, in that it praises the precepts to the utmost.
