On "Or because this relies on that [...] hence it is also called a treasury": this explains "because it relies on that," where that which is relied upon is called a treasury. Or, this treatise relies on that Abhidharma, is drawn forth and produced from that Abhidharma treatise, and is what is contained in that Abhidharma. As for being named a treasury: having Abhidharma as its treasury, it is called Abhidharmakośa; this is a bahuvrīhi compound. Thus the *Nyāyānusāra-śāstra* says: "A treasury is alternatively a support, just like the sheath of a sword." The explanation says: The sword's treasury refers to the sword's sheath, which is what the sword relies upon, because the sword comes forth from that sheath. This sword has the sheath as its treasury, hence it is called a sword-treasury, and the analogy to the Dharma can be understood accordingly. Within the explanation of the name "treasury," in principle there should also be a karmadhāraya interpretation. The author of the treatise did not wish to claim it for himself, attributing the merit back to the source.
