「毘婆沙師至卵即敗亡」者，答。部多求生皆具四食。諸有愛者，段食非但資益現身，亦由段食為緣資益現在惑業令招後有果。以世尊說現在四食，皆為未來眾病根本、癰瘡根本、毒箭根本、老緣死緣。病等竝是苦果異名，故知段食亦資當有。思食非但於當有資益，亦見思食安住現身，故知思食於現有益。三證可知。

"The Vaibhāṣikas say... the egg immediately perishes" is the answer. Both bhūtas and those seeking birth possess all four nutriments. For those with craving for existence, solid nutriment not only sustains the present body, but also, serving as a condition, solid nutriment sustains present defilements and karma so that they invite the result of future existence. For the World-Honoured One said that the four present nutriments are all the root of future manifold diseases, the root of ulcers and sores, the root of poisoned arrows, and the conditions for old age and death. Diseases and the like are all alternative names for the result of suffering; hence we know that solid nutriment also sustains future existence. Volitional nutriment not only sustains future existence, but one also sees volitional nutriment sustaining and maintaining the present body; hence we know that volitional nutriment is beneficial to present existence. The three proofs can be known from this.
