[On the Kośa's statement:] "Why not allow [that it is the seeds of defiled wisdom... what principle would this contradict?]": this is the intention of the Sautrāntika defense. Why not allow that the seeds of defiled wisdom, by being interspersed with wholesome wisdom, are said to pollute wisdom? Or that active defiled wisdom, interspersed before and after with wholesome wisdom, is said to pollute wisdom? Or that the seeds of defiled wisdom, as well as active defiled wisdom before and after, interspersed with wholesome wisdom, are said to pollute wisdom? Just as when greed defiles the mind, it is associated with greed, and in principle is genuinely defiled; yet even if they are not associated, on account of the seeds of greed being interspersed in the mind, it is said to defile the mind; or on account of active greed before and after being interspersed in the mind, greed is said to defile the mind; or on account of the seeds of greed and active greed before and after being interspersed in the mind, greed is said to defile the mind. Later, when the seeds of greed are destroyed, the mind is then liberated. When it is said that ignorance defiles wisdom, it is not by being associated with wisdom; rather, on account of the seeds of ignorance being interspersed in wisdom, it is said to be able to defile wisdom; or on account of active ignorance before and after being interspersed in wisdom, it is said to be able to defile wisdom; or on account of the seeds of ignorance and active ignorance before and after being interspersed in wisdom, it is said to be able to defile wisdom. What principle does such an analysis contradict?
