10.28

「此類法爾至唯可辨用」者，答。眼是淨色，眼識所依，約用以辨。無明亦然，不了諦等唯可辨用。

[On the Kośa's statement:] "This kind of dharma is by nature [extremely profound and subtle... its characteristic] can only be determined through its function": this is the answer. The eye is subtle physical matter (rūpa-prasāda) and is the basis of the eye-consciousness; it is determined by its function. Ignorance is also like this: its failure to understand the truths and so forth can only be determined through its function.
