10.29

「大德法救至恃我類性」者，此大德意，恃我謂恃我起慢，名為恃我，即是我慢。類性是無明，此無明是我慢流類性，故約我慢以顯無明。理亦是餘惑流類性，且寄我慢以顯。又此無明通與諸惑相應，似餘惑故，偏得類名。

[On the Kośa's statement:] "The venerable Dharmatrāta [states that ignorance is] the category (asmi-māna-jātīya) of relying on the self": the venerable master's intention is that relying on the self means giving rise to conceit based on the self, which is called relying on the self—namely, the conceit of "I am" (asmi-māna). "Category" is ignorance; this ignorance is of the same category as the conceit of "I am", and hence ignorance is indicated by way of the conceit of "I am". In principle, it is also of the category of the other defilements, but it is provisionally indicated by relying on the conceit of "I am". Furthermore, because this ignorance is universally associated with all defilements and resembles the other defilements, it uniquely receives the name "category".
