On the passage beginning "The treatise says: […] nor is there anything remaining": This explains the first line [of the verse]. Fascicle 133 of the Vibhāṣā states: "When the fire disaster arises, some say: Seven suns were originally hidden behind Mount Yugandhara; first one shines, and later the other six gradually emerge, thereby destroying the world. Some say: One sun divides into seven suns. Some say: One sun becomes seven times hotter. Some say: The seven suns were originally concealed underground and later gradually appeared. As for the correct view (orthodox master): The predominant power of the karma of sentient beings caused the world to form; when the end of the kalpa arrives, because the power of their karma is exhausted, disaster-fire arises according to the proximity of the place, burning everything up to the Brahma palaces. When the water disaster arises, some say: Hot ash-water rains down near the Third Dhyāna, capable of destroying the world. Some say: It wells up from the water mandala below. As for the correct view: The predominant power of the karma of sentient beings caused the world to form; when the end of the kalpa arrives, because the power of their karma is exhausted, disaster-water arises according to the proximity of the place, and through that cause and condition the world is destroyed. When the wind disaster arises, some say: Wind arises near the Fourth Dhyāna, capable of destroying the world. Some say: A violent wind arises from the wind mandala below. As for the correct view: The predominant power of the karma of sentient beings caused the world to form; when the end of the kalpa arrives, because the power of their karma is exhausted, disaster-wind arises according to the proximity of the place, scattering and destroying everything up to the Śubhakṛtsna Heaven." These three disasters in this treatise do not completely align with the orthodox doctrine of the Vibhāṣā. This treatise does not take the arbiters of the Vibhāṣā as authoritative, but speaks as it pleases.
