Regarding "Not so, because those... rely on great elements [of the body]": this is the resolution. Not so, because that unmanifest [form] which is uncontaminated does not belong to any realm; although there are no uncontaminated great elements, because it arises relying on the body, it is shaped by the great elements of the body. Another explanation: Not so, because that unmanifest [form] which is uncontaminated does not belong to any realm; although there are no uncontaminated bodily or vocal [actions], because it arises relying on the body, it is shaped by the great elements of the body. Another explanation: this resolves both. This is an affirmative establishment. The counter-objection states: If there were unmanifest [form] in the Formless Realm, there would be unmanifest [form] not produced from great elements, meaning that according to their assertion, contaminated unmanifest [form] of the plane of the Formless Realm is bound to that realm and plane. Reasonably, it should be produced from the great elements of that realm and plane; but in the Formless Realm there are no four great elements. If there were unmanifest [form], there would be unmanifest [form] not produced from great elements. Furthermore, one cannot say that contaminated unmanifest [form], like uncontaminated morality, relies on the great elements of a different realm or plane. Therefore, Mahāvibhāṣā 17 states: "Question: Just as, although there are no uncontaminated great elements, there is uncontaminated morality, likewise, although that realm has no great elements, what prevents it from having morality? Answer: Uncontaminated morality does not become uncontaminated by the power of great elements; it is merely co-arisen with an uncontaminated mind due to the power of that mind. Contaminated morality is bound to its realm and plane by the power of the great elements; therefore they are not alike."
