"Unsupported is also like this": lacking those seven things as support, it is called unsupported. Merely generating a deep mind of rejoicing and respect, in walking and so forth, merit also arises in succession. It is analogous to the supported, hence it says "is also like this." Except for uninformative karma, when other defiled or indeterminate minds arise, or in a mindless state, based on what dharma could it be said that meritorious karma increases? If this explanation is adopted, only the mind of rejoicing and respect arises without bodily informative karma. Another explanation: regarding unsupported merit, not only does the mind arise, but bodily respect also causes meritorious karma to increase; it is just that there are no material gifts, hence it is called unsupported. If the uninformative did not exist, what merit would increase?
