Regarding the passage "Second, due to undertaking... constantly giving food and so forth": second is due to undertaking. That is, vowing oneself: "If I have not yet paid homage to the Buddha, I will not eat first," and so forth. Or setting a temporal limit, such as constantly giving food on poṣadha days and so forth. Although the mind may be weak, due to the power of the undertaking, non-manifest karma continues to arise. "Poṣadha days" refers to the six poṣadha days. "Half-month" refers to the half-month, namely the fifteenth day and the final day of the month. "Month" refers to one month; "year" refers to one year. Another explanation says: poṣadha days refers to the six poṣadha days; poṣadha months refers to the three poṣadha months; half-month refers to taking half a month within a month; year refers to one year. Here, "due to undertaking" is explained provisionally with respect to the wholesome; the unwholesome intermediate is omitted and not discussed, but in principle it should also exist. That is, for example, if someone makes a vow regarding an enemy: "If I have not beaten or cursed them, I will not eat first," and so forth; or sets a temporal limit, such that on a certain day they must beat or curse them. Although the mind is weak, due to the power of the undertaking, non-manifest karma continues to arise.
