15.15

由田受重行者，得處中因也。一者由田，謂於如是諸福田，所施園林等，彼施無表，初施便生。二者由受，謂自誓言：若未禮佛，不先食等。於其齋日誓常施食，但起誓心，便發無表。三者由作，謂起如是慇重作意，行善行惡，便發無表。由此三因，得餘無表。

"Through the field, undertaking, and intense action": these are the causes for acquiring the intermediate. First, "through the field": when giving parks, groves, and the like to such fields of merit, the avijñapti of that giving arises as soon as the gift is first made. Second, "through undertaking": making a vow oneself, saying, "If I have not paid homage to the Buddha, I will not eat first," and the like; or on fast days vowing to always give food—merely by raising this vow in mind, avijñapti is generated. Third, "through intense action": giving rise to such earnest attention and performing good or performing evil, avijñapti is generated. Due to these three causes, one acquires the remaining avijñapti.
