16.22

「頌曰至故名俱業」者，此即第三敘異說。前師約五趣以明，後師約五斷以說，俱非正義。婆沙評家意說：於欲界中惡勝善劣，但是惡業皆名黑黑，以惡勝故，非善陵雜。但是善業皆名黑白，以善劣故，惡所陵雜。《正理》意破，亦同《婆沙》。

Regarding "The verse says: ... hence it is called mixed karma": This is the third section, narrating alternative opinions. The former master explains in terms of the five destinies, while the latter master explains in terms of the five severances; neither is the orthodox view. The opinion of the Mahāvibhāṣā's evaluators is: in the desire realm, evil is predominant and the wholesome is weak; all evil karma whatsoever is called dark-dark, because evil is predominant and is not encroached upon by the wholesome. All wholesome karma whatsoever is called dark-white, because the wholesome is weak and is encroached upon by evil. The intention of the Nyāyānusāra's refutation also agrees with the Mahāvibhāṣā.
