"All unwholesome actions ... because they are disagreeable": this explains bad as named black. Unwholesome is called bad; black means black-black. All unwholesome actions are invariably called black because of their defiled nature. Their ripening is also black because it is disagreeable. All unwholesome actions should also be called disagreeable; this is understood implicitly by reflection, and is omitted without being stated. Thus fascicle 114 of the Mahāvibhāṣā states: "There are two kinds of black: first, defiled black; second, disagreeable black. Here, action is called black on account of both kinds of black; ripening is also called black solely on account of disagreeable black."
