"Namely, distancing oneself from the previous … are all called subsequent action": this is the reply. Wholesome paths of action are wholesome through cessation. Distancing oneself from the three phases of the preceding unwholesome [karma] constitutes precisely the three phases of the wholesome paths of action. The phrase "Just as …" and following points to specific instances to individually explain the three phases. Upādhyāya is rendered in Sanskrit as *upādhyāya*. "From this point onward … to expounding the four resources": that is, constantly begging for food, sitting beneath a tree, wearing rags from a dust heap, and using fermented urine as medicine. As well as other actions based on the preceding fundamental path of action from the second thought-moment onward, continuing in conformity and performing various manifest actions, and continuing in conformity and producing non-manifest action, are all called subsequent action.
