Regarding "One should ask that master ... are all called courses of action": The author of the treatise answers. One should ask that master; it is no business of mine. If one were to explain it for them, however, one could also say that covetousness, ill-will, and the rest are precisely mental karma because they lack any distinct entity. Furthermore, as for calling them "courses" (path): because one falls into the bad destinies through this covetousness and the rest, they serve as paths to the bad destinies, and hence are designated "courses of karma" (karmapatha). Alternatively, because ill-will and the rest arise subsequent to covetousness, or covetousness and the rest arise subsequent to ill-will—the preceding being able to produce the subsequent, and the subsequent arising by mounting upon the preceding—it is said that they serve as a path for what follows. Or because they mutually mount upon one another, they are all called courses of action.
