「若爾彼文至能斷善根者」者，引本論文難。本論既說上品不善根能斷善根，明知頓斷。如何乃言九品漸斷？
Regarding "If so, how does that text ... can sever the wholesome roots?": An objection citing the root treatise. Since the root treatise says that the highest grade of unwholesome roots can sever the wholesome roots, we clearly know that they are severed immediately. Why then say they are severed gradually in nine grades?
