"Other masters say: up to their life is then severed": this relates an alternative explanation. Devas also harm devas, knowing that they were enemies in past lives. Only when their heads are cut off or their waists severed is their life severed. Therefore the *Nyāyānusāra* says: 'Other masters say: Devas also kill devas. Although when a deva's limbs are severed they grow back again, if the head is cut off or the torso severed in the middle, they do not grow back.'
