"Namely, from the former conceit [...] arrogance, and conceit of inferiority" is the answer. That is to say, from the first conceit (māna), the second arrogance (atimāna), and the sixth conceit of inferiority (ūnamāna) among the preceding seven conceits. When these three conceits arise in cognitive understanding based on the view of self, having differences in their sequence, they form three times three, nine classes of conceit. Among the nine, the first three are, in their order: the class of conceit 'I am superior,' meaning I am superior to him, which is thinking oneself superior toward the equal, namely arrogance; the class of conceit 'I am equal,' meaning I am equal to him, which is thinking oneself equal toward the equal, namely conceit; the class of conceit 'I am inferior,' meaning I am inferior to him, which is thinking oneself inferior toward the superior, namely the conceit of inferiority. The middle three among the nine are, in their order: the class of conceit 'there is one superior to me,' meaning there is another superior to me, which is thinking oneself inferior toward the superior, namely the conceit of inferiority; the class of conceit 'there is one equal to me,' meaning there is another equal to me, which is thinking oneself equal toward the equal, namely conceit; the class of conceit 'there is one inferior to me,' meaning there is another inferior to me, which is thinking oneself superior toward the equal, namely arrogance. The final three among the nine are, in their order: the class of conceit 'none is superior to me,' meaning there is none superior to me, which is thinking oneself superior toward the equal, namely arrogance; the class of conceit 'none is inferior to me,' meaning there is none inferior to me, which is thinking oneself inferior toward the superior, namely the conceit of inferiority.
