"The eight unimpeded ones... are not nutriment-increased": this explains the third and fourth lines. Being equal before and after is called 'homogeneous' (niṣyanda). Being of similar category is called 'flow', or the effect continuing the cause is called 'flow'. Although things born of fruition also arise from their homogeneous kind, in order to show their distinctive characteristic, discarding the general to discuss the specific, they are called solely 'fruition' (vipāka). Only that which is not subsumed under fruition is called 'homogeneously-flowing' (naiṣyandika). In terms of function, nutriment-increase also applies to the formless realm; here it is spoken in terms of intrinsic nature, hence they lack nutriment-increase.
