「今次應辨至果五或八」者，釋第三、第四句。未至果九，如文可知。根本靜慮雖復說五說八不同，說五正義。此即開章。

"Now next should be distinguished [...] its fruits are five or eight": this explains the third and fourth lines. That the fruits of the threshold state are nine is self-evident from the text. Although for the fundamental dhyānas there are differing explanations of five and eight, stating five is the correct doctrine. This opens the section.
