"[For what reason does the non-returner]... gather [abandonments] collectively into one?": this is the fifth, explaining the points of collecting comprehensive knowledge. This can be understood according to the text. Furthermore, the *Nyāyānusāra* says: "What is meant by 'collecting' is the meaning of combining into one. If in the formless realm one attains the fruit of stream-enterer due to partial detachment, and the fruit of arhat due to complete detachment; if in the sensual realm one attains the fruit of once-returner due to partial detachment, and the fruit of non-return due to complete detachment; if in the form realm one does not obtain any fruit whether by partial detachment or complete detachment—it is only in two places that both of the two conditions are fully possessed: namely, when attaining the fruit, one also transcends the realm. Therefore, at the fruits of arhat and non-return, the abandonments obtained are gathered to establish a single comprehensive knowledge, because at that time an acquisition of uniform quality is collectively arisen. In the other two fruits, although the acquisition is of uniform quality, one has not yet transcended the realm; at the exhaustion of form-attachment, although there is realm-transcendence, there is no acquisition of uniform quality. Therefore, comprehensive knowledge is not gathered at that stage, because both conditions must be present before it is collectively gathered." Explanation: What is called an 'acquisition of uniform quality' means an acquisition of the same category, not a single acquisition. If in the candidate stage, following the differences in superiority and inferiority of the antidotal paths, the acquisitions have many superior and inferior [qualities] in accordance with that path. When reaching the fruit stage, one gives rise to a superior acquisition of the same category, obtaining what was previously acquired and replacing those inferior acquisitions. An ancient master said: Relying on the *Miśrakābhidharmahṛdaya*, at the time of attaining the fruit, the phenomenon-share is obtained by a single acquisition, and the category-share is obtained by a single acquisition, and so the unconditioned dharmas of the four truths are obtained by only a single acquisition. This meaning is incorrect. What is meant by 'a single acquisition' means an acquisition of the same category.
