「通依十地至中間欲界」者，釋十地。問：何故不依無色界耶？答：如《婆沙》云「以無色界無緣色法不淨觀故。」
The words 'Universally relying on ten stages ... the intermediate [dhyāna] and the desire realm' explain the ten stages. Question: Why does it not rely on the formless realm? Answer: As the Mahāvibhāṣā says, 'Because in the formless realm there is no contemplation of impurity that takes material phenomena as object.'
