Regarding "To everyone it is a truth... the non-noble speak of it as pleasure": this is the explanation. The principle of these four truths is true to everyone, both ordinary beings and nobles, because its nature is non-erroneous. However, only the nobles truly see it, not ordinary beings; therefore, in the sūtras they are only called noble truths (āryasatya), not non-noble truths. Although ordinary beings observe the truths, it is not definitive, and they may later harbor inverted views. As a verse states: "The noble ones say nirvāṇa is pleasure; the non-noble say nirvāṇa is suffering." As the non-Buddhists say: "I see that having only one eye in the world is still considered suffering; how much more so in that nirvāṇa where all sense faculties are completely extinguished could there be any pleasure?" Thus they consider it suffering. The nobles speak of sāsrava phenomena as suffering; the non-noble mistakenly speak of pleasant feeling within them as solely pleasurable, and thus it becomes an inversion.
