「以要至得至不目第八」者，答。以要至得道類智時，一具得向、果無漏道故，二具得見、修無漏道故，三於現觀流四諦十六遍至得故。具斯三義名預流者，第八不然，三義不具，故預流名不目第八。

Regarding the passage [beginning with] "Because only upon attaining [...] does not designate the eighth": This is the answer. Because only upon reaching and attaining the subsequent knowledge of the path, first, one completely obtains the uncontaminated path of both candidate and fruit; second, one completely obtains the uncontaminated path of both seeing and cultivation; third, one completely reaches and attains [knowledge] comprehensively through the stream of the sixteen [aspects] of the four truths during direct realization. One who is endowed with these three meanings is called a stream-enterer. The eighth [person] is not like this and does not possess all three meanings; therefore the name "stream-enterer" does not designate the eighth.
