23.34

「然此忍法至十六行相」者，釋第八句。忍有三品，下、中同頂，具觀四諦修十六行，此總相說。若別分別，於中品忍雖初具觀上、下八諦行相漸略，至後位中諦亦漸略。次後當說。

"However, this dharma of Patience ... the sixteen mental aspects": this explains the eighth line. Patience has three grades: the lower and middle are the same as Summit, comprehensively contemplating the four truths and cultivating the sixteen mental aspects; this is stated in terms of general characteristics. If distinguished specifically, in the middle grade of Patience, although at first one comprehensively contemplates the eight higher and lower truths, the mental aspects are gradually abbreviated, and reaching the later stage, the truths are also gradually abbreviated. This will be explained immediately below.
