"The treatise says: ... therefore it is said to be the others": this explains the first two lines. An individual of the śrāvaka disposition who has not planted the aids to liberation for the Buddha vehicle may turn toward the other vehicles; a pratyekabuddha does not abide in the bad destinies, so at the stage of patience he may turn and become one. If one turns toward the Buddha vehicle, after passing through three incalculable aeons and one hundred aeons he gives rise to those heats and the rest; if one turns toward the rhinoceros horn, after passing through one hundred aeons he gives rise to those heats and the rest, because in both cases it is in a single sitting. 'Bodhi' means awakening, and 'sattva' means sentient being; the word 'bodhisattva' is an abbreviation. The remaining text is understood from the context.
