"The treatise states [...] it is also called cool" explains the first verse. In accordance with conventional truth, ascetics are different from brāhmaṇas. In accordance with ultimate truth, the true asceticism spoken of previously is also named 'brāhmaṇa' in the sūtras, because it can expel and eliminate all defilements. Because its meaning is similar to being able to exert effort to quell all defilements, the entity of the ascetic is precisely the brāhmaṇa. This very brāhmaṇa is then also named the wheel of Brahmā (brahma-cakra), because it is turned by the power of the true king Brahmā. It is a wheel turned by Brahmā, and hence named the wheel of Brahmā. The Buddha is associated with unsurpassed Brahmā-virtue; for this reason, the World-Honoured One alone should be named Brahmā, because the sūtras say that the Buddha is named Brahmā and so forth. 'Brahmā' is rendered here as 'pure'.
