On the passage beginning with "The treatise states: ... means the addition of [cognition of] non-arising": at the stages of ordinary persons and at the first moment of the noble path of seeing, one is definitively endowed with conventional cognition. At the second moment, one is definitively endowed with three cognitions, with the addition of dharma-cognition and the cognition of suffering, because of knowing anew; at the fourth moment, subsequent cognition is added; at the sixth moment, the cognition of arising is added; at the tenth moment, the cognition of cessation is added; at the fourteenth moment, the cognition of the path is added. In the path of seeing, during all the moments where there is not yet an addition, the number of endowments is as described for the preceding stages. Therefore, upon reaching the stage of cultivation, because there is no addition, one is also definitively endowed with seven cognitions. Thus for ordinary persons and during the stages of the sixteen minds, if one is already detached from desire, each adds the cognition of another's mind. In the stages of detachment from defilement, except solely for ordinary persons born into the formless realm who are not endowed with the cognition of another's mind, all the rest achieve it. Hence the Nyāyānusāra states: "However, in the stage of an ordinary person and within the path of seeing, one can only be endowed with conventional cognition and the cognition of another's mind; at the moment of subsequent cognition of the path, one is completely endowed with two kinds, because at that time one first attains the fruit of non-returning, also acquiring the untainted [cognition of another's mind] to form the entity of the fruit. In the remaining stages of cultivation, one is completely endowed with both; one born into the formless realm then abandons the conventional." (End of treatise passage). For one liberated at times, one is definitively endowed with nine cognitions, with the further addition of the cognition of exhaustion. For one liberated at all times, one is definitively endowed with ten cognitions, with the further addition of [the cognition of] non-arising.
