[The phrase] "Only at the time of [the subsequent cognitions of] suffering, origination, and cessation [...] one is not yet able to concurrently cultivate [it]" explains the third and fourth lines. Only at the time of the three subsequent cognitions of suffering, origination, and cessation is one able to concurrently cultivate the future conventional cognition bordering on direct realization (abhisamayāntika-saṃvṛti-jñāna). Only at the subsequent boundary of the direct realization of each truth can one concurrently cultivate this conventional cognition; hence it is designated with the name 'conventional cognition bordering on direct realization', precisely on account of this designation. At the other positions of the path of vision, one cannot concurrently cultivate [it], because from beginningless time conventional cognition has repeatedly known suffering, abandoned origination, and realized cessation, and at the border of these three direct realizations it likewise knows suffering, abandons origination, and realizes cessation—coinciding in the very same task. Furthermore, from beginningless time this conventional cognition has never severed [the defilements of the summit of existence,] the bhavāgra; now that the bhavāgra is severed, conventional cognition rejoices, generating acquisition in sympathetic joy.
