26.165

論「唯苦集滅至未能兼修」，明修俗智。於一一諦後邊修故，名現觀邊俗智。於彼後邊觀此諦智得圓滿故，故後邊修。法智位時未圓滿故，故於此位不能修也。

On the Śāstra's 'Only on the verge of suffering, arising, and cessation... cannot simultaneously cultivate': this explains cultivating conventional knowledge. Because it is cultivated at the conclusion of each respective truth, it is called conventional knowledge on the verge of abhisamaya. Because the knowledge observing this truth reaches completion at its conclusion, it is cultivated at the conclusion. At the moment of knowledge of phenomena it has not yet reached completion, and therefore in that moment one cannot cultivate it.
