「依本靜慮至現未來修」者，明異生修餘功德。若依根本四靜慮地修餘功德，四無量等皆現修俗。未來修二，謂加他心。唯順決擇分必不修他心，以是見道近眷屬故。除依本靜慮，若依餘地定修餘功德不淨觀等，皆唯世俗智，現在、未來修。頌文窄故但說修未來，長行文寬兼說修現世。

Regarding [the phrase] “Relying on the fundamental dhyānas, [cultivating other virtues is cultivated in the present and future],” this explains an ordinary person cultivating the remaining virtues. If, relying on the stage of the fundamental four dhyānas, one cultivates the remaining virtues, such as the four immeasurables, one presently cultivates conventional [knowledge] in all cases. In the future one cultivates the two, namely adding [the knowledge of] others' minds. Only the aids to penetration definitely do not cultivate [the knowledge of] others' minds, because they are the immediate retinue of the path of seeing. Aside from relying on the fundamental dhyānas, if relying on the concentrations of other stages one cultivates the remaining virtues, such as the meditation on impurity, these are all cultivated only as conventional knowledge in the present and the future. Because the verse text is concise, it only speaks of cultivating the future, whereas the prose commentary is extensive and additionally speaks of cultivating the present.
