26.70

「依我所釋至別立八名」者，毘婆沙師救。依我所釋，非不能辨此契經中八句別義。謂雖散等同是染心，而為顯其過失差別，故依八義別立八名，欲令有情生厭離故。及雖聚等同是善心，而為顯其功德差別，故依八義別立八名，欲令有情生欣樂故。

Regarding [the text from] “According to my explanation” up to “separately establishes eight names”: this is the Vaibhāṣika's defense. According to my explanation, it is not that one cannot distinguish the distinct meanings of the eight phrases in this sūtra. That is to say, although distracted and the like are equally defiled minds, in order to reveal their differences in fault, eight names are separately established based on eight meanings, wishing to cause sentient beings to give rise to revulsion. And although collected and the like are equally wholesome minds, in order to reveal their differences in virtue, eight names are separately established based on eight meanings, wishing to cause sentient beings to give rise to joy.
