「染由受生至得此地染」者，釋第四句，染由受生及退故得。謂上地沒生下地時得下地染，及於此地離染退時得此地染，必非離染及加行得。故《正理》云「無由離染及加行得，如是二時能捨染故。」

"The defiled is [obtained] through taking rebirth ... obtains the defilement of this level": this explains the fourth line: the defiled is obtained through taking rebirth and through fallback. That is, when dying in an upper level and being reborn in a lower level, one obtains the defilement of the lower level; and when falling back from separation from defilement in this level, one obtains the defilement of this level. It is definitively not obtained through separation from defilement or through effort. Thus the *Nyāyānusāra* says: "It is not obtained through separation from defilement or through effort, because at those two times one is able to abandon defilement."
