「論曰至可厭毀故」者，釋上兩句。諸等至起，依自、下身，依上地身無容起下。一上地起下無所用故、二上地自有勝定故、三下地勢力劣故，此上三種通淨、無漏等至。四已棄捨故、五可厭毀故，後二唯淨等至，以無漏定非是棄捨可厭毀故。

Regarding 'The commentary says ... because it is to be loathed and rejected': this explains the upper two lines. The arising of various meditative attainments relies on one's own or lower bodies; relying on a higher stage's body, there is no possibility of giving rise to a lower [attainment]. First, giving rise to the lower in a higher stage serves no purpose; second, the higher stage possesses its own superior concentration; third, the lower stage is inferior in power—these three apply universally to pure and uncontaminated meditative attainments. Fourth, because it has already been abandoned; fifth, because it is to be loathed and rejected—these latter two apply solely to pure meditative attainments, because uncontaminated concentration is neither abandoned nor to be loathed and rejected.
