28.3

〈分別定品〉者，專注一緣名之為定，此品廣明故名分別。所以次明〈定品〉者，〈賢聖品〉明果，〈智品〉明因，〈定品〉明緣。緣望果疎，故次明定也。又解：依定發智，故次明定。

Regarding "Chapter on the Analysis of Samādhi": single-minded focus on a single object of observation is called samādhi; because this chapter explains it extensively, it is called "analysis." As for why the Chapter on Samādhi is explained next: the Pudgala-nirdeśa explains the fruit, the Jñāna-nirdeśa explains the cause, and the Samādhi-nirdeśa explains the condition. Conditions are more remote in relation to the fruit; hence samādhi is explained next. Another explanation states: Because wisdom is aroused in dependence on samādhi, samādhi is explained next.
