「論曰至各立為根」者，五識各緣自境名各別境識。意識遍緣一切名為一切境識，亦名自境。六根能生六識，有增上用，故立為根。

"The commentary says... [up to] each is established as a faculty": the five consciousnesses each taking their own object are called consciousnesses of distinct objects. The mental consciousness taking all objects generally is called consciousness of all objects, and is also called taking its own object. The six faculties are able to generate the six consciousnesses and possess sovereign efficacy; therefore, they are established as faculties.
