「想謂於境取差別相」者，想謂於境執取男、女等種種差別相，能於境中封疆畫界，此是男等、非非男等，故名男等。《正理》云「安立執取男、女等境差別相因（解云：謂能為因安立女等相，令心心所執取女等境差別相，是差別相因）。」

"Conception (saṃjñā) means grasping specific marks in an object": conception means grasping various specific marks, such as male, female, and so on, in an object; it is able to delimit and draw boundaries within the object, [thinking,] "this is male, etc., and not non-male, etc.," hence it is called "male, etc." The Nyāyānusāra states: "It is the cause of establishing the grasping of specific marks of objects such as male, female, and so on (the explanation says: it means being able to act as the cause that establishes the marks of female, etc., causing the mind and mental factors to grasp the specific marks of objects like female, etc.; this is the cause of specific marks)."
