4.44

論「想謂於境取差別相」，即是取男、女等差別之相。《正理論》云「安立執取男、女等境差別相因，說名為想。」述曰：謂能為因，令心、心所安立男、女等相而執取故。

On the Śāstra's statement, "Conception means grasping distinctive marks in an object": that is grasping distinctive marks such as male and female. The Nyāyānusāra says: "The cause of positing and grasping the distinctive marks of objects such as male and female is called conception." Commentary: It means serving as the cause that enables the mind and mental factors to posit and grasp marks such as male and female.
