Regarding "Therefore the verse says ... duration is spoken of with respect to the continuum": citing verses as proof. These three lines of verse are all verses spoken by the Sautrāntika masters. The first two lines reveal that the characteristics of origination, etc., are established upon the continuum, differing in words but identical in meaning; the latter verse refutes the Sarvāstivāda's claim of real duration within a moment. Because dharmas have no real duration within a moment but have provisional cessation, once that dharma has arisen, it does not await external conditions, but naturally ceases moment by moment. To cling to real duration within a moment is unreasonable; therefore, duration is spoken of solely with respect to the continuum, not with respect to a single moment.
