Regarding "Due to this, the Abhidharma ... is named the dharma-nature of a moment": the author of the treatise states further. Because the meaning of duration is established by this continuum, what is said in the Sarvāstivāda Abhidharma is logically tenable. Therefore that treatise says: 'What is called duration? It refers to all formations having arisen and not yet ceased; duration is spoken of with respect to the continuum, not that having arisen they linger without ceasing, which is called the dharma-nature of a moment. Because the time is extremely brief, it is called a single moment; if it lingered further, it would not be extremely brief.' Although the author's intention sides with the Sautrāntika, he does not overly repudiate the root treatises; therefore, he cites it as proof.
