Regarding "Both absorptions collectively consist in... cessation of feeling and ideation?": a question. In the two absorptions, however many minds and mental factors are extinguished, there are that many conditioned dharmas disassociated from thought (viprayukta-saṃskāras) replacing them to constitute the essence of the two absorptions. For what reason are they designated merely as "without thought" and "cessation of feeling and ideation"?
