Regarding "Simultaneous and associated [causes] ... are called the fruit of human effort": it explains the fourth line. These two causes together obtain the superior, simultaneously arising fruit of human effort. Although the six causes all take [the fruit of] human effort, associated and simultaneous causes are able to take the superior, simultaneous fruit of human effort, which is discussed exclusively here. In order to refute the Vaiśeṣika view that outside the substance of a dharma there is a separate activity, it therefore says "not exceeding the substance of the agent is there a separate human effort." The fruit obtained precisely by the effort of these two causes is named the fruit of human effort (puruṣakāra-phala), named from an analogy: just as a man's effort is called human effort, the fruit of human effort is named the fruit of human effort.
