"Now, what is said here [...] is called bound to the formless realm": the author of the treatise answers. What is said now is not like your cited answer of tying the horse. For among the previously explained twenty places of the desire realm, in one who is not free from attachment, attachment is called attachment of the desire realm; the places which this attachment conforms with and increases are called dharmas bound to the desire realm. Among the previously explained seventeen places of the form realm, in one who is not free from attachment, attachment is called attachment of the form realm; the places which this attachment conforms with and increases are called dharmas bound to the form realm. Among the previously explained four places of the formless realm, in one who is not free from attachment, attachment is called attachment of the formless [realm]; the places which this attachment conforms with and increases are called dharmas bound to the formless realm. Attachment and the bound dharmas differ vastly in scope and are distinct in intrinsic nature—how could this be the same as tying the horse? The second explanation according to indeterminate [dharmas] and so forth should be understood in accordance with the preceding.
