論「傳說喜等至數遊行故」，答也。「傳說喜等意為近緣於諸境中數遊行故」者，即是意與喜等以為近緣，喜等於境數遊行故，喜等名為意近行也。

[On the Śāstra's statement:] 'Tradition says joy and so forth [up to] frequently range over them', this is the answer. 'Tradition says joy and so forth take the mind as their proximate condition and frequently range over objects' means that the mind serves as the proximate condition for joy and so forth; because joy and so forth frequently range over objects, joy and so forth are called 'mental investigations.'
