10.135

論「說欲界繫至謂法近行」，述色界初二定體、緣。此地有喜、捨二受故，欲界具六境故，緣欲界境具十二也。色界無香、味故，緣色唯八也。無色界中唯法處故，唯有喜、捨二法近行。

[On the Śāstra's statement:] 'Those bound to the desire realm having been explained [up to] namely, the investigation of mental phenomena', this sets forth the intrinsic nature and objects of the first and second dhyānas of the form realm. Because this stage has two feelings, joy and equanimity, and the desire realm possesses all six objects, taking the objects of the desire realm as referents possesses twelve. Because the form realm lacks odors and tastes, taking visible matter as referents has only eight. In the formless realm there is only the dharma-base, hence there are only the two investigations of mental phenomena of joy and equanimity.
