10.4

論「謂體非明」，此則答也。答中有三：前二不正答、後一舉頌正答。就不正中有二：一以非明故名曰無明、二以明無故名曰無明。此是前答。所以名無明者，以非明故。

The treatise says: "It means its entity is not clarity." This is the answer. Within the answer there are three parts: the first two are indirect answers, and the last is a direct answer citing a verse. Within the indirect answers there are two: first, naming it "ignorance" because it is non-clarity; second, naming it "ignorance" because there is an absence of clarity. This is the former answer: the reason it is called ignorance is because it is non-clarity.
