10.65

論「有說意識至就相應立」，述異說也。此師說：意識緣境因，語為增上故，方能緣境。此即意識名為增語，觸與增語相應故名增語，此從相應名增語觸。

On the Śāstra's statement: "Some say that mental consciousness ... established in terms of association": this recounts a divergent view. This master states: with the cognitive object of mental consciousness, speech serves as the predominant condition, and only thereby is it able to cognize the object. Thus mental consciousness itself is named 'predominant verbal'; and contact is associated with this predominant verbal [consciousness], hence it is named 'predominant verbal contact'. This derives the name 'predominant verbal contact' in terms of association.
