The treatise says: "Just as sound, cooking transformation, and the like definitely arise from different classes." Here the Master of the Treatise adduces analogies to illustrate. Just as strings, bamboo, clay, and grass are of different classes from sound, yet the clear and turbid sounds transformed by them are determined and not indeterminate; and just as fire and earth are of different classes from food and iron, yet fire can cook and transform food whereas iron and earth cannot—is this not determined?
