The commentary states: "Because the body has pores and gaps, they can accommodate each other." This is the reply. The Vibhāṣā and the Nyāyānusāra have another explanation: as when dyeing a limb, the substance is subtle and thus does not increase [in size]. Fascicle 134 of the Vibhāṣā states: "Question: Are there prior gaps in the body of the desire realm into which the great elements of the form realm enter? Answer: It is not so. In the future, the body of the desire realm naturally has two kinds: first, purely desire-realm great elements; second, desire-realm great elements intermixed with form-realm ones. When encountering the conditions for entering the absorption of the form realm, those that are purely desire-realm perish, and those intermixed with the form realm arise. Therefore, one cannot say that there are prior gaps into which they later come and dwell (the explanation says: if it has not arrived at the present, one cannot say there are gaps; if the present moment is called a gap, one still cannot say that they come and enter it; if they come and enter, that reaches the subsequent moment, so in the future they arise simultaneously with the matter of the lower level)." Again, fascicle 122 of the Vibhāṣā states: "However, vijñapti and avijñapti arise relying on the body. Some rely on one part, such as snapping the fingers or lifting a foot, where movement of one part performs good or bad karma. Some rely on the whole, such as bowing to the Buddha or chasing an enemy, where the movement of the entire body performs good or bad karma. Here, corresponding to the quantity of paramāṇus of the supporting body, vijñapti-karma is likewise; and corresponding to the quantity of vijñapti, avijñapti is likewise."
