"The commentary states: ... like being free of illness." This explains the first, the ultimately wholesome (paramārtha-kuśala). Because nirvāṇa is the supreme peace among all dharmas and the eternal cessation of all suffering, it is the supreme truth (paramārtha); therefore, it is called the ultimately wholesome. The Nyāyānusāra gives two explanations: the first explanation is the same as the above; the second explanation states: "Or, true liberation is both supreme and real, thus obtaining the name 'paramārtha'. 'Supreme' means most revered, having no equal. 'Real' (artha) means having a distinct, real intrinsic nature. This reveals that nirvāṇa is unequaled and substantially existent, hence called paramārtha; such paramārtha, being peaceful, is called wholesome. Because such nirvāṇa is wholesome and eternal, its substance is the most revered among all dharmas; therefore, it is uniquely designated as the ultimately wholesome."
